Arataki Visitor Centre & Nature walk, Kitekite Waterfall, Piha Beach and Lions Rock

So today we decided to revisit some of our favourite spots... Arataki Visitor Centre, followed by Kitekite waterfalls near Piha beach.

We had some unfinished business here - a few things on our list that we didn't manage to get round to do such as the nature walk at Arataki, and a climb up Lions Rock at Piha Beach.  So the Grandparents got their first little taster to a New Zealand walk, or 'tramp' as the Kiwi's like to call them.

A little sit down and time to grab a quick sandwich, and then it was off to revisit Kitekite waterfall near Piha Beach.

Piha beach it has to be said couldn't have been more different from our previous visit a few months back. Rather than being rammed with people in total contrast it was completely empty bar the odd crazy lycra clad runner and random roaming dog.

Despite being walked out we summoned the last bit of energy our little legs possessed and went for a climb up Lions Rock.

We did managed to clamber to a fairly high vantage point, however the path was closed from going right to the tip due to unstable rock... but the views over the beach were pretty spectacular none the less.

And then back down again...

...to catch this cracking photo of Piha beach as the sun was setting - total stunner!
