Opened the blinds
this morning to a wet ground and grey overcast sky, it was going to be a wet
one so a cinema day me thinks! We spent the morning attempting a 1000 puzzle
and then after lunch we headed down to our local cinema only a minute from our
apartment – it’s great living so central. The boys opted for “Frozen”. Having
not a diddly squat clue what it was about and assumed it was about dinosaurs
and the ice age, but it turned out to be a Walt Disney fairytale cartoon about
a couple of sisters (princesses none the less), one of which has the magical
powers of turning things to ice. (Storm in the X Men, but the tamed kiddy
version). It was a lovely film which the boys both stated it was one we had to
get on DVD – there the official stamp of approval!
After the cinema
we paid a visit to the local swimming pool as I wanted to sign the boys up for
swimming lessons. They had to have a short swimming assessment so we decided to
have a little swim too. I really don’t mean to harp
on about all the fab things New Zealand has to offer but all children under 15
swim for free.
I don’t know if this is true for the rest of New Zealand
but that’s the case for Takapuna anyway. The adult ticket came to about £3 so
again not breaking the bank like it does back in the UK where it would cost us
about £18 for the three of us for a swim in Kent.
That might explain why all the children can swim out here. Generally you don’t see many floats and armbands, maybe a couple on very little toddlers, but other than that they are all on their boogy boards swimming like little fish! Maybe the pool realises that if they charged then people just wouldn’t go as there is a free beach on their door step. Alternatively maybe they realise that swimming is quite a fundamental skill for children and don't see it as a money making enterprise. Either way in my opinion in comparison to the UK they’ve got it spot on.
